Buddha's Women Disciples

With Lama Chimey

March 24 - 27, 2022

Contrary to common belief, there were numerous accomplished and  realized women who were disciples of the Buddha 2,500 years ago – both  lay and monastic. The stories and songs of these women are contained  primarily in the Pali Canon and have survived – first orally and then in  writing – since the time of the Buddha. The very fact of survival indicates  their significance to Buddhism.

This retreat will be a mixture of sharing the songs, stories, and biographies  of the women; how their realizations relate to specific teachings of the  Buddha; the history and culture of that era; and sessions of shamatha.  Participants will be encouraged, but not required, to enact or read their  favorite stories. Artists, bring your tools!

Men are encouraged to join this retreat.
