The Jewel Ornament Of Liberation, composed by the early Kagyu master Gampopa, was the first systematic presentation of the complete Mahayana Buddhist path by a Tibetan author. This masterpiece contains a complete guide to liberation for one traveling the sutra path.

The peerless Gampopa lays out the teachings in a clear and systematic manner that is understandable for beginners yet contains such depth that practitioners and scholars will repeatedly return to it in order to penetrate its profundity. Gampopa himself said that for future followers of the Kagyu, encountering this work will be like meeting him in person. Anyone who practices in the Kagyu tradition owes it to themselves to become familiar with this work.

And for an auspicious conclusion to the weekend, we have asked Khenchen Rinpoche to bestow the lay precepts on Sunday afternoon. There are five of them, and recipients can choose which ones they wish to take. The five are: to not kill, to not take what is not given, to not lie, to abstain from sexual misconduct (this can range from celibacy to remaining faithful and respectful to a partner), and to abandon intoxicants. Receiving and protecting these precepts is a wonderful way to enhance one’s practice of ethics.

Khenchen Konchok Gyaltsen Rinpoche is uniquely qualified to teach this text. He deeply studied Gampopa’s works with the Venerable Khunu Lama Rinpoche and later translated and published one of the most well-known versions of this essential work. Rinpoche is considered a true expert on this text who fully embodies these sacred teachings and KCC is greatly honored to be able to host Rinpoche for these teachings.
