Please join us for KCC’s annual New Year’s Retreat!

The practices will be a combination of those that unearth our inherent wisdom and those that nurture compassion. We will be guided through shamatha or calm abiding meditations and various aspects of bodhichitta practice, such as loving kindness, compassion, and taking and sending. And in order to skillfully orient ourselves for the coming twelve months, we will also recite several aspirations prayers by the awakened women and men of our lineage. As usual, there will be frequent stretch breaks and opportunities for questions and discussion.

This year’s program will unfold a little differently. The New Year’s Retreat will be from 9:00am to 3:00pm on Friday and Saturday, December 30th and 31st. At the turning of the new year, we will rejoice in our past year of dharma practice and make aspirations for the year to come, moving into the new year with some intentionality.

Immediately following the two days of retreat, on Sunday, January 1st, we will hold our usual all-day sit, focused on the practice of calm abiding, also from 9:00am to 3:00pm. On this day, at 11:00am, there will be an opportunity to participate in a refuge ceremony. Taking refuge is a formal step to take up the Buddhist path. If you are interested in taking refuge, please contact Linda Grove at lgrove@kcc.org and if you have questions about it, please contact Lama Eric at trinle.thaye@gmail.com.

Lunch on the Friday and Saturday of the retreat will be a brown bag affair. Please bring your own or have a plan to get something during the 1.5 hour break. On Sunday, January 1st, we will have one of our potluck extravaganzas. Please come and join us!

The event will be a hybrid offering with the opportunity to come to KCC to practice or to join via Zoom.
